Shutki is a digital collage based on an installation of the same name. It is made up of a video still from the
pond next to Brishty’s grandma’s house, and photographs of sculptures in iron and clay. Shutki is a
Bengali speciality of dried fish or prawns. The kind of dish that can’t be contained. It is part of an
ongoing series of Shutki works where bodies of solid clay are shaped by their interaction with another
material and left to dry. Schüchternfische emerged as a malapropism, the mistaken use of an incorrect
word in place of a word with a similar sound, resulting in a nonsensical, sometimes humorous utterance:
in this case confusing Schuster (Schusterkarpfen, the Austrian cobbler carp) with schüchtern (engl.: shy)
